Community Area Plan } Planning Process

The Evelyn Avenue Corridor Precise Plan (EACPP) was adopted by the City in 1994.  It goes without saying that during the intervening 16 years significant changes have occurred within the Mountain View community, our nation, and the world when it comes to the way we all think about our natural resources, energy production and usage, and conservation efforts.  For example, 16 years ago the word “Prius”, which in Latin means “prior or before”, was just a revolutionary idea from Toyota.
Today Toyota has sold more than 1 million of these hybrid vehicles and has helped redefine the modern automobile industry.

Other examples of innovative ideas and initiatives that did not take priority in past planning efforts such as:
  • High density transit-oriented development
  • “Green” Buildings
  • Reducing vehicle miles travelled (VMT)
  • Mitigation of global climate change
  • Sustainability by design, have now come to the forefront of “smart growth” planning and development.
  • Public Transportation

With the recent passage of bills like SB375 and AB32 local and regional governments have come to realize that responsible development should allow more density near transit lines and essential services. While the original EACPP met the Old Mountain View community needs at the time, it did not fully anticipate the strong shift toward a “greener” more sustainable lifestyle focused on reducing pollution and waste.  In addition, the coming improvements in the existing transit system including the possibility of a high speed rail stop at the Downtown Transit Station, will certainly foster continued strong economic growth and additional residential and commercial development within the City.  Prometheus is working closely with the City at the Minton’s Lumber property to modify the existing plan to meet the needs of today’s economy, while protecting the interests of the local community and the people who call Mountain View home.
